A Humidifier is basically a device which can help regulate the moisture in the room atmosphere with low humidity. Low room moisture can lead to various health issues like serious allergies, respiratory distress, etc. To avoid these situations, Humidifiers have become very popular amongst people, be it for a single room, the whole house, or an entire building. Today we will focus on humidifiers for allergies and understand how maintaining appropriate moisture can help you prevent allergies from dust, bacteria and allergens.

People living in areas with hot and dry climatic conditions should install humidifiers in their homes to protect themselves from allergies, flues, asthma, dry throat and other dry air related health issues.

When to use a humidifier? As per the Environmental Protection Agency, the appropriate humidity level at home should be maintained between 30 to 50 percent. So when the humidity level is on the lower side, you should consider using a humidifier. Also, it is recommended to use filtered water in humidifier devices to avoid spreading infections from the micro-organisms of the dirty water. Another way to understand that it is time to switch to a humidifier is when you feel static electricity in the air referring to the dry quality of air in your home.

Things to take care while using Humidifiers include –

  1. Using only Filtered water: Unfiltered water can contain impurities which on using in humidifiers can degrade the quality of air in the atmosphere, so always consider using Filtered water.
  2. Changing the water frequently: Big humidifiers work on large amounts of water which might become stale with time due to being stagnant, so always keep changing the water after a period of time.
  3. Changing the filter: Always assure to change and clean the filters regularly to get the best out of the humidifier.
  4. Keep a check on the humidity level: Just like dry air is bad for your health, similarly humid air can also have harmful effects on your body like lung problems. So always try to maintain the humidity level and keep a check on that using devices hygrometer.
