If you’re prone to tonsil infections, like tonsillitis and tonsil stones, then you understand how annoying and inconvenient they can be. They may not pose a serious threat to your health but they sure can feel like it with the pain and discomfort they can cause.
Because of this I imagine that you’ve already looked for solutions for the infection, or maybe that’s how you’ve ended up on this article. Either way, you’re in the right place to broaden your knowledge.
Within this article I’m going to show you some of the most effective home remedies for tonsil stones, tonsillitis and any tonsil infections you may be experiencing. Everyone should be able to do these so there’s no need to make a trip to your dentist!
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar in its organic form still has the “mother” in it, i.e. the good bacteria that help to heal your body. This will make the apple cider vinegar look cloudy or as if it has something swirling about in the bottle. It should also read “organic” on the label or “mother intact”.
ACV has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This means it will reduce the severity of your infection and help aid symptoms you could be experiencing as a result of tonsil inflammation, particularly trouble and pain when swallowing.
Add one to two tablespoons of the organic ACV to half a cup of warm water, take a sip and gargle for 15 seconds. Afterwards, repeat the process until all the mixture is gone.
Do this a few times per day and your infection should be less of a problem. Also, clean out your mouth with clean water after gargling.
You would use this in a similar manner as ACV, however you would treat it more like a disinfectant. The salt water has antibacterial properties but not anti-inflammatory ones, so your infection will get better but your symptoms may not.
What you do is mix 1-2 teaspoons of salt water to 1 glass of clean water and swirl this around your mouth, making sure it reaches your tonsils. Do this one sit at a time and clean out your mouth afterwards – just like the ACV.
Zinc and Vitamin C
After choosing one or both of the above gargles, be sure that you’re taking plenty of zinc and vitamin C. Your body needs these to help ward off any viruses and bacteria that may be lurking.
There are many ways to consume more zinc and vitamin C but I recommend you try to eat more foods that are high in both, mainly fruit and veg. You can buy special lozenges that contain both but this is just a short term solution.
These product will likely be expensive, putting you under a financial constraint that you really need not go under. Adapting your diet is a much better way of doing this as you’ll treat and prevent your tonsil problems over the long term, even though it may be difficult to do at the beginning.
Considering your experience with tonsil infections, I think you’ll agree with me that a little effort is well worth it.
Choose some juice popsicles and soothe those tonsils. Sucking on the popsicles will cool the throat and the natural juice will give you more vitamins to fight off infections – this might be an unhealthy alterative to what I said above but it should still work, just make sure you consume them in moderation.
Does your best to avoid, or resist, cream popsicles that may have milk and a lot of sugar within them. These are unlikely to have any worthy nutritional value and will only cause more problems – a poorer diet means a poorer immune system and a poorer immune system means more infections.
Avoid Milk Products
Sore throats, tonsil issues, and milk products are said to not go well with each other. This isn’t definite but to make sure I recommend you avoid drinking milk products. They could make your problem worse.
Some people do eat a good yogurt that has the good bacteria (probiotics) in it to help relieve some of the symptoms. You just need to make sure you read the label and do a bit of research first before choosing one.
This way you’ll stay on the safe side.
Combining the above-mentioned methods as a solution for tonsil infections will go far in helping you ease your symptoms and stop the pain you’ve been experiencing. You don’t necessarily need to do all at once, just try to incorporate a few into your daily life.
Typically you’ll feel relief within a few days and in many cases, just a few short hours. Be patient, you didn’t get sick overnight and you likely won’t get well overnight either.
